How we travel

At YAGER we are committed to the environment & sustainability, which is why we encourage our employees to travel by means that reduce our carbon footprint. While it is not always possible, due to scheduling conflicts, we have had folks from our company travel by train.

The last two visits to the Game Quality Forum in Amsterdam were train trips, our annual Gamescom visit is usually done by train, and this trip to Sweden was also a journey that some folks took the train for.

Of course, taking a plane is usually faster, and often cheaper when traveling in Europe, but looking at things from a green standpoint it is important to offer this choice and encourage taking a more sustainable trip.

En Route To Malmö

The initial trip to Sweden started on Monday at 10:17 AM. The first step was to get to Hamburg; from Hamburg the destination was Copenhagen and then it was just a short trip across the Øresund Bridge to reach Malmö at 6:32 PM. Travelling by train has another advantage; If the employee prefers, they can spend additional days in the city, allowing their trip to or from their destination to be more pleasant. If the connection allows it, and we all know that is not always the case, you usually can even do some work while on the train, though this is not a requirement from our side.

Visiting Sharkmob

Our friends at Sharkmob invited parts of our leadership team, which was also involved in our beloved project The Cycle: Frontier, to deepen the conversation on some topics that were big feedback points from their recent playtests, and they wanted to tap into our experience regarding these topics from TC:F. We had lunch together, walked to their lovely office and then jumped right into a playtest to show off our skills in Exoborne while checking the latest build of the game. Afterwards we shared an extensive presentation with them, displaying some of our key lessons and learnings from The Cycle: Frontier.

This cake was amazing

To wrap up the day, and after we boosted our energy levels with some amazing cake, we took a deep dive into some creative discussions and exercises, as well as talks about the collaboration and contributions from YAGER on their project: Exoborne.
We are thankful for the great talks and hospitality that Sharkmob offered us and are and are looking forward to the amazing things they have planned for Exoborne.

Back to Berlin

After a long day full of interesting exchanges of thoughts & ideas, it was time to say goodbye to the lovely city by the sea and our peers. Parts of our team went to the airport, as they had longer travel in front of them, and others had time to explore the city with a later departure for the train back to Germany. The train left the station at around 10 PM and arrived in Berlin at 7:45 AM.

As you can see, we are not only true to the game, but also true to our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint as best as possible.
