Girls’ Day?
Girls’ Day takes place once a year and became popular in Germany in 2021. It is a career orientation day for girls from the 5th grade onwards to get to know different fields of work. Usually, the girls check out careers in which no more than 40% of women are working, training or studying.
Why is Girls’ Day a thing?
Women are underrepresented in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) even though they have better school qualifications and grades in high school on average. Our participation in the Girls’ Day is an important step to support young women in realizing their full potential and show them career opportunities and companies that are lacking young talent, especially in tech and tech-related fields.

Is gender that important?
Gender is one of the easiest factors that can be measured when it comes to diversity, due to legal restrictions for example. It can be a good indicator of how diverse a company is, but it just reflects ONE aspect when it comes to perspectives, experiences and backgrounds amongst the employees.
Let us talk about diversity
Companies with diverse teams are better at problem solving and innovation, you have fewer blind spots, more creativity and better products overall. In a business sense this means that you have better sales as well and that your business gets stronger. The work around Diversity & Inclusion is never really done. We truly believe that a diverse team, regardless of your Gender, Sexual Orientation, Race and Ethnicity, Religion, Age, Ability and Disability, Socioeconomic Status, Cultural Background, Intersectionality and Neurodiversity, will create better games.

So what?
Girls’ Day has been around for 23 years, and we even had folks here at YAGER who discovered working in gaming is an option through a Girls’ Day. All the data that was collected has shown that girls had increased interest in STEM jobs if they were exposed to them early on. So yes, Girls’ Day creates interest and opportunities, and we are always happy to support it.
Since 2020, YAGER has implemented various measures to promote women in the workplace and is continuing to try and increase its female representation.
